How it's built

Structure where a long day needs it.

01 · Arch

TPU three-point shell

A molded shell braces the arch at three load-bearing points. Under a hard lateral cut the arch wants to collapse inward, and the shell is what holds that shape.

02 · Heel

14mm heel cup

The deepest cup of either court insole. It seats and centers the heel on hard stops, pulling load off the plantar fascia at the exact moment the load peaks.

03 · Cushioning

Cushioning that will not pack flat

PORON Comfort cushions the heel; PORON Vive cushions the forefoot. Both resist compression set, rebounding session after session instead of packing flat.

04 · Cover

Velvet top cover

Soft, breathable, and sweat-absorbent. Late in a long match the foot stays planted instead of sliding around inside the shoe.

05 · Construction

Two sides, one matched shape

The foot-facing upper and structural underside follow the same full-length profile, keeping every material positioned where it has a specific job to do.

06 · Fit

Trim the toe, keep the support

Apex is trimmed only at the forefoot to match your shoe. The molded heel cup and arch remain untouched, keeping the support geometry exactly where it was designed.

How we tested
Player video

Back-to-back matches is where gear gets found out. Apex went through a full tournament weekend without going flat on me.

The push off the split step is where I feel it most. There is something to drive into that was not there before.

Four sessions a week for the whole test. The foot pain that used to end my week never turned up once.

Drilling blocks two hours at a stretch. Apex is the only pair I have tested that felt the same at the end as at the start.

Outdoor courts are brutal on the joints. This is the most impact I have had taken out from under me by anything.

I was losing more time to niggles than to opponents. I have had a clear run of training since switching over.

Structural hold is the phrase I keep coming back to. Under real intensity my foot stays exactly where I put it.

Much more stability on the hard lateral moves than the sockliner that came in the shoe. It is not a close comparison.

I teach five days a week and demo constantly. My physical therapist pointed me to the test, and I understand now why she did.

    Survived a full tournament weekend

Nine matches over two days is where gear gets found out. They felt the same in the last match as the first, which nothing else I own does.

The push off the split step

There is something under my foot to drive into now. Hard to describe until you feel it, but it is the reason I am keeping these.

  3. Malik J.

    Field tester

Four sessions a week, zero foot issues

I was averaging one niggle a month before the test. Three months in and I have had a completely clear run.

  4. Sandra E.

    Field tester

Too firm for me, but I see who they are for

These are clearly built for hard play and the stability is real. I found them harsh for the amount I actually play and would have been better off in the softer model.

  5. Kurt B.

    Field tester

Two hour drilling blocks, no drop-off

Drilling is harder on the feet than matches are. These are the first pair that felt the same at the end of a block as at the start.

  6. Imani W.

    Field tester

Outdoor courts are a lot less punishing

Concrete was starting to end my weeks early. Whatever these are taking out from under me, it is more than anything else has.

  7. Reid T.

    Field tester

Foot stays exactly where I put it

Under real intensity my foot used to slide and I would lose the edge of the shoe. That has stopped completely.

  8. Lucia M.

    Field tester

Not a close call against the stock sockliner

I swapped back for one session out of curiosity and lasted about twenty minutes. It is not a small difference.

What the research says

The 2023 heel pain clinical practice guideline supports a combined approach: stretching, load management, and, where appropriate, foot orthoses as part of a wider treatment plan. HeelBase follows that same support-first principle.

Frequently Asked Questions

HeelBase Apex questions

The answers buyers seek the most before choosing this insole.

They are built for different sessions, and neither is the upgrade. Apex is the structured one: a 14mm heel cup, a TPU arch shell, and PORON pads at the heel and forefoot. It is heavier than Drive on purpose, because that structure has to come from somewhere. Drive is the light one at 54.9g, ventilated and printed, built to keep you cool across hours of open play. Pick by how your sessions actually run, not by price.

Stronger lateral court movement

You play hard.Your feet take the load.

HeelBase insoles give your shoes the support pickleball actually demands.
